Former VMware Executive Barry Cooks Joins Cloud Company DigitalOcean
Former VMware executive Barry Cooks has joined cloud company DigitalOcean. DigitalOcean was established in 2011 and is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The company’s services enable users to easily deploy and manage applications on its cloud platform. Alongside cloud offerings that include virtual hosting, cloud infrastructure and virtual server services, DigitalOcean offers Kubernetes services, and was in the news at the end of last year for the introduction of a ‘Kubernetes-as-a-Service’ offering. Mr. Cooks joins DigitalOcean as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

A 20-year industry veteran, Mr. Cooks’ career has focused on software and systems development alongside product and quality assurance management. Prior to joining DigitalOcean he held the position of Senior Vice President of Products, Engineering and Support at Palo Alto, California-based Oracle subsidiary Sun Microsystems. Mr. Cooks has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Purdue University, alongside a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Oregon. His role at DigitalOcean will leverage Mr. Cooks product development experience and he will be in charge of the company’s product and infrastructure activity and teams.
