May 30, 2006 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) French IT company PeerFactor (http://www.peerfactor.fr) has announced a new service that allows users to share files of any size. The service allows users to upload files to PeerFactors servers and receive a link which they can send by email instead of sending email with a huge attachment.
The PeerFactor system chooses an appropriate downloading procedure for files. Files receiving few download requests are downloaded though http whereas high frequency files are transferred to mail receivers by a mini (69ko) P2P client. This allows resources to be shared between files of different sizes. The system works with any operating system and does not install software onto a users computer.
According to the company, all mail is totally confidential but data transfer is not encrypted. PeerFactor offers alternative services with encryption for more sensitive information. A demo PeerFactor site is available at http://www.peerfactor.fr/send/
