Global Cloud Services Platform Provider Interoute Manages 4.1 Million Visits to UEFA Champions League Page
Global cloud services platform provider Interoute has announced it managed 4.1 million visits to the Champions League page on the UEFA.com website during the final weekend of the event. Interoute, which has headquarters in London, United Kingdom, was established in 2003. With 15 data centers, 17 virtual data centers and 33 colocation centers, the company owns and operates “one of Europe's largest networks”. The company recorded 2,641,515 visits to the Champions League page on Saturday alone.

For those that don’t follow European football, the UEFA Champions League is an annual competition that only takes in Europe’s top-flight football clubs. It includes the champions and runners up of each of Europe’s major football leagues. This year the competition was contested by Italian club Juventus and Spanish club, Real Madrid. The final score was 4-1 in Real Madrid’s favor. Interoute had to address significant spikes in traffic as football fans from around the world visited the Champions League’s page for updates, statistics, highlights, and post-match interviews. Chinese visitors represented the bulk of the visitors to the site.

“There’s a continuing trend towards dual screen viewing as consumers increasingly access the internet to add to the experience of live events,” explained Interoute EVP, Products and Development, Mark Lewis. “However, to ensure that fans can enjoy web content without any lag, providers must have a robust ICT infrastructure foundation in place for web content. UEFA.com relies on Interoute’s secure and scalable networked cloud, that can cope with major spikes in demand and ensures a great UEFA.com experience for fans across the globe. For a world increasingly reliant on good digital user experience, a low latency, resilient infrastructure is essential. Businesses that are prepared for this online-first generation will undoubtedly take the lead in their market.”
