Global IT Company Cisco to Buy Internet Threat Protection Company OpenDNS
Global IT company Cisco has announced its intention to buy Internet threat protection company OpenDNS. The company, which has headquarters in San Jose, California, USA, produces a range of networking solutions for the Internet, with Cisco equipment facilitating approximately 85% of all Internet traffic. Currently under the leadership of CEO, Chuck Robbins, Cisco's move is intended to help the company extend its cloud-delivered products and services. The cost of the deal is reported to be in the region of $635 million and will be completed by the end of the first quarter in 2016. The Cisco Security Business Group will absorb the entire OpenDNS team.

Established in 2015, OpenDNS has headquarters in San Francisco, California, USA. It offers a range of DNS resolution services leveraging a Software-as-a- Service (SaaS) model. The company add services such as phishing protection to the Domain Name System (DNS). It also provides 'Umbrella' - a security product for the cloud which protects businesses from a range of treats including malware, botnets, and phishing. Its Global Network deals with around 60 billion DNS queries every day. By adding OpenDNS' capabilities Cisco will enhance its 'Security Everywhere' solutions.

"OpenDNS has a strong team with deep security expertise and key technology that complements Cisco's security vision. Together, we will help customers protect their extended network wherever the user is and regardless of the device."
