Global IT Hosting Provider PEER 1 Hosting to Attend HostingCon
Global IT hosting provider PEER 1 Hosting is to attend the HostingCon industry conference and trade show for web hosting and cloud service providers, which will be held June 17-19, 2013 at Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. Robert Miggins, the company's Senior Vice President of Business Development, will give a presentation on "Addressing Big Data Needs Outside the Cloud" on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 10:00-10:45 (Texas time).

The term "Big Data" refers to data that has become so voluminous and dense that it has become difficult to manage using traditional data processing applications and database management tools. Companies find it difficult to store and analyze such amounts of information, and trends suggest Big Data will continue to grow in both the short- and long-term future. Many companies dealing with Big Data have invested in "bare metal" off-premise scalable dedicated servers that replicate cloud functionalities. Such companies are able to outsource data management and processing to third-party providers, allowing them to focus on their core capabilities and business without having to worry about running an IT department.

Operating since 1999, PEER 1 Hosting is a subsidiary of Cogeco Cable Inc. and a provider that helps companies helps alleviate the burden of Big Data. The Vancouver, Canada-based company specializes in managed hosting, dedicated servers, colocation and cloud services, and has extensive European operations which are run out of the company's European headquarters in Southampton, United Kingdom.

"Many of our customers that originally bet big on cloud computing are now realizing the benefits of an IT footprint that also incorporates hosted bare metal servers," explained Robert Miggins. "Cloud computing has the potential to deliver strong performance metrics and significant cost savings, but it is not the only option for outsourced data management. Plus, with recent improvements to bare metal servers that can mimic the scalability and elasticity of cloud computing, a dedicated environment is a good alternative to the cloud for some organizations."
