Global Research and Advisory Firm Forrester Research Suggests Only One Third of UK Companies are Utilizing Cloud Computing
Global research and advisory firm Forrester Research has produced a report which suggests only one third of UK companies are utilizing cloud computing. The figure puts the UK well behind Germany and France as far as cloud implementation is concerned. The report also suggests that close to one third of UK IT budgets are spent on hardware for in-house solutions and investment in software has grown by 10% over the last year.

Forrester Research's study cited a number of reasons for the UK's apparent lack of interest in cloud solutions. Financial institutions, for instance, do not consider the cloud as cost-effective as in-house solutions, nor do they feel the cloud offers the level of security their industry requires.

The report also suggests that UK telecoms and utility companies are more likely to utilize cloud solutions, with more than half of those surveyed suggesting they used "at least one type of cloud service". Mobility, the report suggests, is an area of growth in the UK, with 60% of UK businesses increasing their use of mobile devices. This growth in part is driven by retailers such as Tesco.
