Is the Internet Industry Back? Yes and No Says Goldman Sachs |
 |
October 18, 2005 (HOSTSERACH.COM) Lawrence Calcano, the managing director of Goldman Sachs' high-tech group told a technology conference the climate is good for Internet companies to go public. "Is the industry back? Yes and no -- no because it will not be the case this time that the rising tide will raise all boats," Calcano said.
Although US Internet companies with online advertising business models are proving successful, Calcano suggested this does not mean a return to the hype of the Internet bubble experienced in 2000.
"The bars to go public are very high now," said Calcano. "Private equity players are creating a new set of rules." He went on to say that although 20% of consumers' time is spent online, only around 5% of advertising budgets are spent on Internet advertising, suggesting substantial potential for those intent on online advertising. |
