Google Cloud and Data and AI Company Databricks Announce Partnership
Google Cloud and data and AI company Databricks have announced a ‘global scale’ partnership. Databricks has headquarters in San Francisco, California, United States, and was founded in 2013. The company specializes in a range of areas including Apache Spark, big data, and data science, and it is regarded as a leader in Unified Data Analytics. It “helps organizations make all their data ready for analytics” and helps them leverage machine learning to “outpace the competition”. With the ability to process large amounts of data in the cloud, organizations can now “innovate faster”. Its customers include Comcast, Shell, HP, Expedia, and Regeneron while its partners include Microsoft and Amazon.

Launching on Google Cloud gives Databricks the ability to integrate its offerings with Google BigQuery's open platform and Google’s AI Platform. Companies will now be able to leverage Databricks to “create a lakehouse capable of data engineering, data science, machine learning, and analytics on Google Cloud’s global, scalable, and elastic network”. Databricks can also leverage Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and allow customers to deploy "in a fully containerized cloud environment for the first time”.

“Businesses with a strong foundation of data and analytics are well-positioned to grow and thrive in the next decade,” explained Google Cloud’s CEO, Thomas Kurian. “We’re delighted to deliver Databricks’ lakehouse for AI and ML-driven analytics on Google Cloud. By combining Databricks’ capabilities in data engineering and analytics with Google Cloud’s global, secure network—and our expertise in analytics and delivering containerized applications—we can help companies transform their businesses through the power of data.”

“This is a pivotal milestone that underscores our commitment to enable customer flexibility and choice with a seamless experience across cloud platforms,” added Databricks’ CEO and co-founder, Ali Ghodsi. “We are thrilled to partner with Google Cloud and deliver on our shared vision of a simplified, open, and unified data platform that supports all analytics and AI use-cases that will empower our customers to innovate even faster.”
