Google Malaysia Targeted by Hackers and Re-directed
Google Malaysia was successfully targeted by hackers this week. Visitors to Google.com.my, the localized version of Google for the Malaysian audience, were sent to another site where they were informed Google Malaysia had been “Hacked by Tiger-Mate #Bangladeshi Hacker”.

According to the corporation, the hack did not compromise data and the issue involved MYNIC Berhad - the administrator for ".my" web addresses. Both Google and MYNIC - which is managed by Malaysia's Ministry of Communications and Multimedia - worked together to address the issue. Although the site was back online very quickly, no official confirmation that the issue has been fully addressed has been given.

“We’re aware that some users are having trouble connecting to google.com.my, or are being directed to a different website," Google were quoted as saying in a report by the Wall Street Journal at the time of the hack. "We’ve reached out to the organization responsible for managing this domain name and hope to have the issue resolved shortly,” the report added.

No reason for the attack has been established, nor has the origin of the attack been determined. The Lizard Squad hacked Malaysia Airlines' website in a similar fashion earlier this year, while it is also reminiscent of an attack on Google’s Vietnam homepage in February where the site's DNS was hijacked.
