Host Europe Group has appointed Oliver Hope to the Nominet Board of Directors. Mr. Hope, the group’s Finance and Operations Director, was voted in as a Non-Executive-Director with the aim of developing the United Kingdom-based provider, which now manages over 10 million domain names.
Established in 1997, the Host Europe Group is the United Kingdom’s largest domain registrar catering for 1.5 million customers and managing 6 million domains. Alongside domain registration the group offers a range of services including cloud hosting, managed hosting and cloud based software applications. The group is Europe’s largest virtualization provider and its brands include 123-reg, Webfusion, Heart Internet, domainFACTORY and Host Europe.
Mr. Hope brings substantial experience to his new role. He joined Host Europe when Mesh Digital was acquired by the group in 2012 and has held as range of executive positions. He is a chartered accountant and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He has been involved in the ICANN arena for some time and is on the ICANN Accredited Registrar Stakeholder Group Executive Committee where he is treasurer.
"Maintaining the independence of the domain name space is vitally important for growth,” explained Mr. Oliver. “In my role I hear concerns from a broad range of Registrars, from those who are very large to very small players, and I understand and can bring relevance to their issues. I hope the experience I bring will be valuable to Nominet in order to help them engage with the wider community. The past couple of years have been both challenging and exciting for Nominet and the UK name space and, as part of a committed Board of Directors, I look forward to the successful launch of .uk, .wales and .cymru, helping to shape Nominet to meet its challenges in the future."
