Web Host Hosting.com Releases Colocation Industry Trends Report
October 14, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web host Hosting.com (http://www.hosting.com) has released a report highlighting trends in the colocation industry, it was announced recently. The report took in 200 individuals - business and IT executives - and included topics such as virtualization, disaster recovery, green initiatives, and value-added services. According to the report, improved reliability is the core reason for companies to decide on colocation as a solution.
The report came up with some important findings. For example, 67% of those questioned choose to colocate their data infrastructure to "improve availability and reliability," while 44% expect to see a Return on Investment (ROI) within 24 months. 40% of respondents saw virtualization as having an impact on their datacenter space requirements, 21% expected no reduction, and 37% were unsure. The report also suggested bandwidth, security and redundancy were the three most important factors for most companies when choosing a colocation provider. The report also established colocation clients are increasingly interested in managed services provided by colocation providers.
"Client engagement is paramount to our success, but the true test is a company's ability to take this information during an economic downturn and continue to provide and develop solutions that are client-centric and relevant to the current marketplace," explained Hosting.coms Director of Marketing and Communications, Aaron Hollobaugh. "We are taking these responses and rolling out enhanced value-add services (in December 2008) for our colocation clients."
According to the company, over 20% of respondents were CEOs or business owners. The demographics of the respondents ranged from companies with as few as two employees to well over 100,000 employees. Diversity was also evident in the revenues of the companies that responded, ranging from under $1 million to over $100 billion annually.
