Hostway Accuses Netscape of Plagarism Over Bob's Cube Site
May 31, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Web hosting provider Hostway.com accused Netscape of online Plagiarism today pointing out the striking similarities in Hostways Bobs Cube website and Netscapes The Cubicle and the one month difference between the release of the 2 sites. Hostway had been using the Bobs cube site for viral marketing, i.e. creating an amusing diversion with some marketing in the hopes that users would spread the word themselves about the site and thereby get free advertising. With the site averaging close to 10,000 hits a day and receiving awards from CoolHomePages.com and FavouriteWebSiteAwards.com its little wonder others have copied the idea although a little surprising it was followed so closely.
Hostway took a poke at Netscape but apparently wont do more as its all just more buzz for Hostway.
"With the great buzz Hostway has received, its no wonder Netscape wanted to join the fun," said John Lee, Hostway's vice president of marketing. "The team at Hostway is extremely flattered that Netscape chose Bob's Cube to inspire its design of The Cubicle. We're eagerly awaiting Netscape's thank you letter."
