Web Host Hostway Launches 3rd Generation VPS to Offer New Levels of Stability, Performance and Value
August 4, 2009 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Hostway, a global leader in the web hosting market, has announced the launch of its 3rd generation of VPS (Virtual Private Servers) in the UK and Europe. Employing the latest technology from virtualisation and automation leader Parallels, Hostway's new VPS are aimed squarely at customers who are looking for robust dedicated server performance with simple administration, but who don't want to pay dedicated server prices.
The popularity of Virtual Private Servers has increased in line with the prevailing adoption of virtualised services in the industry. For example, developers looking for a cost-effective upgrade path from traditional shared hosting, or for a short-term home for their application development projects have been fast to embrace the benefits of VPS. More generally companies that need a more reliable web platform have significantly benefited from the scalability and agility VPS delivers.
Thomas Herbert, Product Manager at Hostway explains, "VPS technology has itself evolved considerably since Hostway's first launch of this type of server in 2004, and we think they have the potential to offer greater security and stability than ever before. The developments in Parallels Virtuozzo Containers 4.0 and Parallels Plesk Panel, combined with changes we've made to our network, hardware and support structure, mean that customers are getting real value for money while benefiting from greater scalability and flexibility."
"As a valued long term partner we are pleased to see the evolution in Hostway's VPS offering. Organisations are relying on the web more than ever to run their businesess. By utilising Parallels virtualisation software within its broader solution set, Hostway is making it much easier for these businesses to put in place a cost effective, resilient and scalable infrastructure. In fact, solutions like this really demonstrate how hosting companies are now starting to move into the on-demand cloud space," said Jack Zubarev, President, Service Provider Division, Parallels.
For those less familiar with virtualisation technology, virtual servers are created by partitioning one or more hardware nodes (physical servers) which then behave exactly like individual dedicated servers, but all sit on the same physical hardware node. Each virtual machine in turn has its own Operating System and a guaranteed share of resources (Processor, disk storage, RAM, connectivity) which can be appropriated for any purpose.
In addition to this, Hostway's 3rd generation of VPS now feature 'burstable' RAM and connectivity, meaning that when loads are low and there is unused capacity on the node, VPS can make use of these extra resources if they require them, with no detrimental effect on other users. Furthermore, if VPS owners experience difficulties at any stage, they can make use of Hostway's free image 'roll-backs' which allow them to go back to a 'last working version' of their VPS, up to two weeks historically.
"The roll-back feature is ideal as it offers customers a quick, self-service means of resetting their servers when they need to," elaborates Mr Herbert. "Customers will also benefit from our free technical support for all our VPS customers as and when they need it - 24hours a day, 7 days a week."
Hostway VPS customers can choose which Operating System they want to use (Windows2003 Server, or a variety of GNU/Linux distributions under root) and which method they wish to administer their VPS by (either Parallels Plesk Panel or via Root Access/ssh). Those electing to use the popular Parallels Plesk interface can opt for 10, 100 or unlimited domain licenses on their server, meaning they can scale up or down easily. Hostway are also offering unlimited traffic on their top two models. Prices start at £19.95 +VAT per month.
