Indian Ecommerce Site Flipkart and Cloud Giant Microsoft Form Partnership
Indian ecommerce site Flipkart and cloud giant Microsoft have formed a partnership. A Singapore-registered company, Flipkart, has global headquarters in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The company, which was established in 2007, was originally named "DigiFlip" and sold products that included tablets and laptop bags. Since then the site has moved into many areas of ecommerce including clothes, sports equipment and accessories. As of November 2016 the company had a value of $5.54 billion. Its partnership with Microsoft will see Flipkart add advanced cloud technologies and analytics to its existing data centers.

Adoption of Microsoft’s Azure is the first stage in a partnership that will ultimately see Flipkart leverage Azure’s artificial intelligence capabilities, machine learning and analytics capabilities. Flipkart is especially interested in using solutions like Cortana Intelligence Suite and Power BI to personalize the customer experience. The partnership was announced at an event in Bangalore, India by Binny Bansal, the CEO of Flipkart Group, and Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft.

"Flipkart has always been committed to its vision of transforming commerce in India through technology,” explained Binny Bansal. “Given Microsoft's strong reputation in cloud computing, coupled with scale and reliability, this partnership allows us to leverage our combined strength and knowledge of technology, ecommerce and markets to make online shopping more relevant and enriching for customers."
