Information Management Solutions Provider Veritas and Cloud Giant Microsoft Partner on Cloud Data Management
Information management solutions provider Veritas Technologies (Veritas) and cloud giant Microsoft Corporation (Microsoft) have partnered to work on data management in the cloud. Veritas has headquarters in Mountain View, California, United States and prides itself on having “86 percent of global Fortune 500 companies” as customers. The company helps companies to “harness the power of their information” and offers a range of information management solutions that give customers a competitive advantage. Its multi-year strategic partnership with Microsoft will see the two companies “jointly sell hybrid cloud storage solutions to mutual customers”.

Veritas and Microsoft have previously worked together in a number of areas and their current collaboration will enable mutual customers to benefit from a cost-effective approach to cloud data management. Their customers will be able to leverage the cloud to reduce storage costs and “extract greater value” from data through the use of Azure’s cloud services, which include advanced analytics and machine learning.

As part of the arrangement, Veritas’ NetBackup 8.0 data protection solution now supports storage tiering to optimize data movement to the Azure storage platform. This increases operational benefits for companies and reduces their costs. In addition, Veritas Backup Exec 16 now offers movement of backup data to Azure. Veritas will also leverage Azure to run its Enterprise Vault.cloud service which helps Office 365 users find archived information.

“Enterprises increasingly rely on cloud computing to advance digital transformation,” explained Veritas’ Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer, Mike Palmer. “As Veritas embarks on its one-year anniversary as an independent company, today’s announcement marks a pivotal milestone towards accelerating cloud initiatives for our mutual customers, and it begins with more efficient ways to move their data to the Azure cloud.”
