Atos SE (Societas europaea) has been awarded the first cloud contract issued by the Hong Kong government. The contract has an estimated value of HK$127 million (US$16.4 million).
Atos is global information technology services provider with 76,400 employees in 47 countries. Its revenue in 2012 was EUR 8.8 billion (US$11.53 billion). The company caters to a broad customer base in a range of sectors and provides consulting and technology services, systems integration, and a range of managed offerings alongside hi-tech transactional services.
Hong Kong's Office of the Government Chief Information Officer chose the local arm of Atos to establish and operate the Hong Kong Government Cloud Platform (GovCloud) over a seven year period. GovCloud is expected to be launched by the end of this year and will offer a pool of computing resources that can be shared through a core infrastructure. It will provide a centralized IT infrastructure that will allow e-government services to host and share documentation and drive down IT costs. Atos will also provide data center hosting for the Hong Kong government.
