No Rest for the Wicked - 84% of IT Professionals Work Thanksgiving Says Web Hosting Provider Intermedia.NET

November 24, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Is this time to reconsider your career options? A whopping 84% of IT Professionals will work Thanksgiving a poll provided by web hosting provider Intermedia.NET suggests. And it’s the real deal - the survey says only 6% are planning to "avoid spending time with relatives, by pretending to work" In addition, 28% of IT professionals will get “no time off at all or will have to work overtime to catch up after the break”.

Intermedia.NET’s poll took in 500 business workers and the results show a clear division between business and IT professionals. 14% of office workers are planning to pretend to work to avoid relatives. In addition, 19% of office workers will “deliberately ignore all work calls and emails” while only 9% of IT professionals will do the same. The survey further indicates that IT workers’ roles in organizations are becoming more important - IT professionals are 17% more likely than senior executives to “receive urgent calls for help from the office this Thanksgiving”.

"With IT becoming so critical, it is perhaps no surprise that so many IT professionals plan to work over the holiday," said Rurik Bradbury, VP Marketing for Intermedia.NET. "Outsourced IT -- such as our hosted Microsoft Exchange service -- can be helpful in freeing IT staff from routine maintenance and risk-prone in-house servers. We highly encourage overworked IT personnel to browse www.intermedia.net this Thanksgiving as they strive to keep their companies running."
