Internet Service Provider Adds ‘Anti-Phishing’ Feature

September 25, 2005
23 September, 2005 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - Internet Service Provider EarthLink yesterday announced the addition of anti-‘phishing’ feature ScamBlocker to its EarthLink MailBox email client. ScamBlocker offers warnings of known or suspected bogus Web sites that imitate legitimate sites for the purposes of identity theft. ScamBlocker allows email users to establish the level of threat of each email they receive before opening it. Customers receiving emails they suspect may contain ‘phisher’ site URLs can send them to EarthLink who will evaluate its threat level. "Consumers need all the protection they can get against the increasing number of online scams and threats when sending and receiving emails," said Kevin Brand, EarthLink's vice president of product management. "By combining ScamBlocker with spamBlocker and Virus Blocker, EarthLink subscribers have three of the most powerful protection features available to consumers in a single, easy-to-use e-mail application." Industry experts estimate 70 percent of consumers express concerns about email fraud.
