Internet Solutions Provider Future Hosting Reaffirms Support for Net Neutrality
Internet solutions provider Future Hosting has reaffirmed its support for net neutrality. With headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, United States, Future Hosting was established in 2001. The company offers a number of services including traditional web hosting alongside managed dedicated servers, Virtual Private Servers (VPS), and hybrid VPS. The company’s move comes in the wake of “recent attempts to erode the foundations of a free and open web”.

Future Hosting is concerned that efforts are being made negate certain efforts made by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States during President Obama’s administration. Of particular concern to Future Hosting are efforts to re-categorize broadband as an ‘information service’ and not a telecommunications service. The company is concerned this might “relax the restrictions on ISPs around throttling, paid prioritization, and zero rating of favored services”. Traditionally providers have managed data across the net, but have done so with the best interest of consumers in mind, Future Hosting suggests. Relaxing net neutrality rules potentially allows ISPs to “prioritize revenue to the disadvantage of consumers and their ability to access the web”.

“The erosion of net neutrality will harm competition on the web. Zero rating and paid prioritization favor established companies that can afford to make deals with ISPs,” explained Future Hosting’s Vice President of Operations, Maulesh Patel. Startups and smaller businesses without the ability to establish the same relationships won’t be able to compete, and the web will quickly lose its status as the home of innovation and disruption.”
