Japan’s Mizuho Bank Chooses Big Blue’s Services
Japan’s Mizuho Bank, Ltd. (Mizuho Bank) has chosen IBM - traditionally known as ‘Big Blue’ - for its API services. IBM, which has headquarters in Armonk, New York, United States, is traditionally a software and hardware provider but has become a major player in the cloud arena over recent years. Its services extend to ‘Big Data’, machine learning solutions, and ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) offerings. IBM will offer services that will enable Mizuho Bank to customize services based on its customers’ requirements.

With headquarters in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan, Mizuho Bank is a Mizuho Financial Group organization and one of Japan’s largest financial services companies. The bank will leverage IBM Japan’s FinTech API solution alongside IBM API Connect on the IBM Cloud and IBM DataPower Gateway.

The move is a response to a “digital initiative” established by Japan’s banks and financial institutions that is designed to enhance customer experience through APIs. Once established Mizuho Bank’s customers will benefit from the ‘Personal Financial Management’ services offered by its partners. The bank will also be able to offer IoT Payment services.

“API banking becomes a crucial step that helps drive open innovations by new technologies for customers, business partners, and Mizuho Bank,” explained Mizuho Bank’s Senior Technical Officer Masahiko Kato on IBM’s website. “Instead of competition, Mizuho continues to collaborate with business partners to create and provide innovative, secured services for customers.”
