June 17 is "Download Day" for Firefox 3

June 17, 2008
June 17, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – June 17 is ‘Download Day’ for the latest Firefox version. Mozilla, creators of the famous Firefox Internet browser, are trying to get into the record book by generating the highest number of downloads for a single piece of software in one day (24 hours).

Download Day will be marked by the “Camp Firefox BBQ”, an event organized by Mozilla that will take place at its offices in Mountain View, California, USA. The company is hoping the event will be mirrored by fans around the globe, with parties and other events that will ultimately get Firefox in the Guinness Book of World Records for a record that has not previously existed.

Firefox is the Open Source (OS) Internet browser that compares favorably with IE7 as far as market share is concerned. Available in 45 languages and considered by many safer than its Microsoft alternative (which to some extent it helped shape in terms of features available), the software is supported by a legion of developers who create ‘add-ons’ that are available as free downloads.
Add-ons can be immediately installed into Firefox, customizing both its look and functionalities. Firefox has also inspired a number of other compatible solutions including ‘Thunderbird’ and the ‘Lightening’ add-on, which together offer a viable alternative to Microsoft Outlook, the de facto standard for email, time management and calendar solutions. The combination can also be customized through add-ons.

Mozilla suggests Firefox has over 175 million users in more than 230 countries. Its true fans are generally the ‘geeks’ whose interest in the Internet often spills into fervor. The site has its own Facebook page with over 91,000 Facebook ‘friends’.
