This year’s
Joomla World Conference 2015 (JWC15) will take place in India, with hundreds of attendees from across the planet heading for Bangalore – a city recognized as being India’s "Silicon Valley”. The event takes place 6-8 November 2015 at the Sheraton Grande Bangalore Hotel at the Brigade Gateway in the heart of India’s third-largest city. It celebrates 10 years since the inception of the globally popular Content Management System, or CMS.
Joomla is an Open Source (OS) solution that is free to use and allows anyone to create a website that can be managed and updated through a user-friendly interface without any programming knowledge. It is a powerful solution that can be manage the most basic of sites as well as major sites designed for ecommerce, etc. Users can create their own website templates, or purchase one of numerous commercial template designs available to the market. The basic Joomla functionality can be enhanced through the addition of modules that have been created for free usage by the Joomla community, or modules that have been created by commercial entities. Around 7,500 free and commercial extensions are currently available at the official Joomla Extension Directory.
Written in PHP, as of early last year Joomla reached the milestone of having been downloaded over 50 million times. It is second only to WordPress in popularity. The Joomla conference brings together web professionals from around the world and offers a program of sessions presented by international speakers and experts. “Each year, the Joomla World Conference takes place in a different Country, and this year India was the natural choice for us,” explained one of the event organizers, Jon Neubauer. “India is the fastest growing market for Joomla and we have seen a tremendous interest in using and contributing to Joomla from India. The choice of Bangalore was harder as India is such a large country with many great locations, but the fact that so much technology is centered in Bangalore made the choice easier. We are excited to be hosting the World Conference in Bangalore and have already received lots of encouragement from local businesses who are eager to participate.”
