Macquarie Hosting has been selected to host Australian Internet TV company
Switch Media’s mission critical video-on-demand and video content management applications, it was reported recently. The company, a division of Macquarie Telecom, will be responsible for providing a “high availability hosting solution” which Switch Media will utilize for customers that include Fairfax Media, The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Australian Government and INSEAD, the International Business School.
The partnership is in line with Switch Media’s plans to grow services in the Australian and Asia Pacific markets and “capitalize on increased take-up of Internet TV services”. Switch Media itself has “grown fourfold” in the last year and chose Macquarie Hosting based on its need for a “more robust end to end hosted communications solution.”
Macquarie’s solution provides “proactive monitoring and management from the TV aerial to the servers and Internet pipes”. The solution will be provided through Macquarie’s ISO 27001, PCI and DSD Certified data centre, the Intellicentre.
“There is no question that Internet TV will become ubiquitous as electronics manufacturers, broadcasters and content providers all scramble to develop the means for audiences to access and consume this content as quickly and comfortably as possible,” explained Switch Media’s Chief Executive, Christopher Stenhouse. “A significant market opportunity exists for Switch Media to be the provider of choice in this space but only if we can deliver the guaranteed smooth and reliable viewing experience our customers’ audiences expect.”
