ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed web hosting for businesses worldwide, today began offering full-gigabit throughput as an optional, add-on feature for its most popular Managed Dedicated Server packages, for $25 more per month.
The new offering is available through an easy-to-use, online configuration system. ServInt previously had offered the full-gigabit upgrade on a custom basis, requiring consultation with a ServInt configuration engineer.
"When we decided to standardize our gigabit-throughput service, we put our customers' interests first," said ServInt Chief Operating Officer Christian Dawson. "Until recently, we felt that the billing complexity and performance-reward aspects of gigabit connections were generally poorly understood. Therefore, we required customers to consult with our engineers before making that type of server upgrade."
Dawson added, "Today, a far greater number of customers clearly need a gigabit connection to run their businesses. Those who need the connection also recognize its intricacies, as well as its tremendous benefit. We now feel comfortable making the purchase decision easier. Of course, customers always can contact our engineers before making any upgrade to their service packages. In fact, we encourage it."
As a recent example of a ServInt customer's successful full-gigabit deployment, Dawson cited a best-selling author whose new book reached the top of Amazon.com's sales chart. The massive surge in traffic at the customer's site - which required bandwidth of 210 Mbps for two full days - was easily accommodated by his gigabit upgrade.
"This kind of customer experience is increasingly common, as broadband-centric content proliferates in an increasingly Internet-dependent world," said Dawson. "Last year, ServInt dropped its bandwidth overage charges by 75 percent to make it easy for our customers to thrive in this new environment.
