December 18, 2007
December 18, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Managed services and data center provider DataPipe has been included in a standards setting body addressing payment cardholder data protection. A global provider of managed services and carrier neutral data center facilities, DataPipe announced today that it has joined the PCI Security Standards Council as a new participating organization. As a Participating Organization, DataPipe will work with the Council to evolve the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment card data protection standards.

The PCI DSS, endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc., requires merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security controls and processes that ensure data integrity. More information on the council and the standard can be found at http://www.pcisecuritystandards.org

As a Participating Organization, DataPipe will now have access to the latest payment card security standards from the Council, be able to provide feedback on the standards and become part of a growing community that now includes more than 350 organizations. In an era of increasingly sophisticated attacks on systems, adhering to the PCI DSS represents an entity’s best protection against data criminals. By joining as a Participating Organization, DataPipe is adding its voice to the process.

"By joining the PCI Security Standards Council, DataPipe is playing an active role in protecting cardholder data," said Bob Russo, General Manager, PCI Security Standards Council. "Participating Organizations have a unique advantage of being able to provide a voice in determining the future of the standards setting process."

Joel Friedman, CISSP, CISA, CISM, DataPipe’s Chief Security Officer, said DataPipe is committed to becoming a contributing member of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By actively participating in the council, DataPipe will be able to effectively provide feedback from a managed service provider’s point of view to help drive the standard to appropriately address this growing market segment,” Friedman said. “Access to proposed revisions will allow us to ensure that our turnkey compliance package addresses both current and future requirements of the PCI DSS standard.”

The mission of the PCI Security Standards Council is to enhance payment account security by fostering broad adoption of PCI security standards. DataPipe, Inc. provides managed hosting and security services to a range of vertical industries, including financial services, healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, publishing, media, business services, public sector and software. The company has more than 1500 customers in 6 data centers and 8 office locations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and China.
