September 25, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Managed services provider eLINIA is to launch a Cloud storage service, it was announced yesterday. The companys new back-up and storage service will offer security features such as encryption, and is aimed at small to medium-sized businesses. The service will utilize Amazon S3 technology to provide a fully managed, massively scalable, storage infrastructure, enabling businesses to back up all their local servers as well as databases and products such as Microsoft Exchange.
Weve seen a sharp rise in the number of requests we receive for remote backup over the past 6 months, explained James Carnie, Technical Architect at eLINIA. Weve used our established technology base and linked this securely to in the cloud services, providing peace of mind in knowing the data is both secure and remote from customer site.
According to eLINIA, many companies want to move from traditional media-based storage as a result of security breaches. Its cloud storage service uses a local back-up appliance to cache data before transferring it directly to highly secure datacenters in the UK, and is also linked into the Amazon capability for further diversity and scalability.
Customers we have spoken to see tape back up as unreliable, explained Mr. Carnie. Theres a lot of management required every day to ensure critical business data is secure, and even then there are no guarantees that data wont be stolen or simply lost. Cloud storage eliminates this risk, and the extra level of security that our managed service delivers should help even the most security conscious IT manager sleep easy at night.
Based in the UK, eLINIA caters for security conscious organizations, including government organizations and financial sector businesses. All of eLINIAs engineers and technicians are accredited at the highest security levels, including ISO9001, ISO27001. The companys cloud storage service is currently undergoing beta-trial with selected customers, with the service earmarked for general availability in early 2009.
