Mr. Mark Walker has joined British web hosting provider
UKFast. Mr. Walker will oversee the company's move into the public sector and transition towards FlexPod - a Cisco system that offers a reference architecture for server, storage and networking components.
The company, which has headquarters in City Tower (formerly the Sunley Building), a 30-storey building situated at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, England, owns its own carrier-neutral data centers and offers a range of hosting options, including managed hosting, cloud hosting (public, private and hybrid cloud solutions) and colocation. The launch of the company's Manchester-based MaNOC4 facility added 8,000 square feet of datacenter space and 300 racks to the company's capacity, while the June 2013 launch of MaNOC 5,6 & 7 adding an additional 20,000 square feet of space to the company's capacity.
Mr. Walker brings significant experience in the cloud storage arena to his new position. His previous positions include working as Sales Manager at ANS (a provider of cloud-based services) and Proact (an IT company). Mr. Walker's appointment comes on the heels of the success of the company's eCloud™ options and the company becoming a G-Cloud provider. G-Cloud is a government-wide initiative focusing on introducing the cloud to government departments, local authorities and the UK's public sector. As a result, the company exceeded expectations for 2013.
“Now we’ve brought Mark in to add even more to our cloud portfolio – it is a really exciting time for UKFast," explained UKFast's CEO Lawrence Jones. “With this appointment we are able to offer the public sector the opportunity to move away from their traditional risky in-house data centres into secure, resilient and modern facilities to experience how the internet should be.”
