Japanese automaker Mazda's regional arm, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), has chosen
Rackspace Hosting, Inc. to build its web presence in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Rackspace, which has headquarters in San Antonio, will also manage Mazda's MyMazda application, an app that is calibrated to a car's mileage and allows owners to keep track of their vehicle's factory maintenance requirements. Together Mazda's website and app attract 2.1 million unique visitors on a monthly basis.
Mazda's choice to add Rackspace Critical Application Services on top of its own configuration was based on the Rackspace's "proactive monitoring" services. The company combines dedicated server and managed virtualization options to establish a highly reliable infrastructure for the mission critical sites it caters to. In addition, the company has the capacity to manage peaks caused by advertising campaigns. During a recent CNN campaign, for example, traffic increased more than 50%, from a typical 85,000 visitors per day, to 130,000 visitors.
Rackspace Critical Application Services offers SLAs that guarantee a 100% production platform uptime. The company also offers "web scale engineers, deep-level performance monitoring and on-going guidance to optimize platform performance through the application and infrastructure environment". Critical Application Services also offers a range of advanced warning systems that enable Mazda to address issues immediately, and often before they actually happen.
"A major reason why Mazda chose Rackspace to host several of its Web sites and applications is most importantly for their Fanatical Support and Critical Application Services," explained MNAO's CIO Jim DiMarzio. "The proactive monitoring from the Critical Applications Services team is a huge value-add to our business. We can now proactively scale for future demand. Since the migration to Rackspace, Mazda's sites have performed better, and the support our team is receiving is unparalleled."
