MCI Makes Major Move to Protect Customers Against DoS Attacks

Share
April 27, 2005 - (HOSTSEARCH.COM) - In a strange turn about telecom giant and web hosting provider, MCI, today announced it is increasing offerings on its service level agreements (SLAs) for its end-to-end Managed Network Services. While MCI had hosted Send-Safe a virus distributing spammer through a reseller up until recently the company has now decided to take a major step in fighting the kind of Internet abuse it once profited from.

In order to fight viruses and DoS attacks, the company has improved its restoration SLA to guarantee a 3.5 hour time to repair in the U.S. and a four-hour guarantee for Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

"MCI Managed Network Services customers benefit from knowing that their networks are supported by the best set of SLAs in the industry," said Nancy Gofus, MCI senior vice president of Product Management. "With our newly enhanced restoration and third-party performance guarantees, we have set new standards supported by what we believe to be the industry's best technical team."

The new MCI SLA offering will likely have a ripple effect across the web hosting industry as smaller companies are forced to try and compete with the telecom giant in order to preserve their customers.
