Going Carbon Neutral Helps Web Hosting Company Memset Increase Business by Over 65%

August 24, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Going carbon neutral has helped web hosting company Memset (http://www.memset.com) increase business by over 65%, the company reported yesterday. Memset, based in Guildford, United Kingdom, went carbon neutral last year qualifying as the UK’s first carbon-neutral ISP. A survey conducted by the company suggested 1-in-3 of 140 new customers joined Memset because of their carbon-neutral certification.

“We decided to join the Carbon Neutral scheme last year, in part because we have always been conscience of our impact on the environment and wanted to do something to positively offset our carbon footprint, and also in order to gain a stamp of approval on our pre-existing commitment to developing energy-efficient hosting technologies,” explained Memset’s Managing Director, Ms. Kate Craig-Wood. “The fact that we have gained new business as a result really reflects the changing attitudes of businesses wanting to work with environmentally-friendly suppliers.”

Memset worked with The CarbonNeutral Company (http://www.carbonneutral.com) to identify the amount of CO2 the company generated through energy usage, business travel, and “all components of the company’s operations that consume power or generate waste and by-products”. It was found the bulk of the company’s “carbon footprint” was generated by powering servers. Memset and The CarbonNeutral Company then established a plan to reduce the footprint. The plan included supporting a new methane capture project.
