Microsoft Updates Email Policy
Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft Corporation has announced an update of its email policy. The update has come in the wake of criticism related to recent revelations that the corporation had read emails in a Hotmail account belonging to Alex Kibkalo, a blogger who purportedly stole and transmitted Windows 8 code.

Microsoft’s new terms of service state that it will not read the email of its email service users. The news was made available last Friday by Brad Smith on the corporation’s blog. It stated: "Effective immediately, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property from Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer's private content ourselves. Instead, we will refer the matter to law enforcement if further action is required."

The change in policy is likely to be a boon for Microsoft as far as its competition is concerned. As outlined in a series of Microsoft adverts, Google ‘scans’ emails for keywords which prompts adverts to be displayed around its free Gmail email service.
