Web Host Netfirms Goes Green and Reduces Energy Consumption

July 12, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web host Netfirms (http://www.netfirms.com/) has gone green through reducing energy consumption, it was announced yesterday. The company, one of North America’s leading web hosting companies, has launched an effort to reduce its environmental footprint by conserving energy in its data centers and corporate offices.

Netfirms is migrating its clustered server architecture and data center operations to “a direct current power source using Rackable Systems’ (http://www.rackable.com) patented DC power technology”. The company suggests it has already reduced data center power consumption by 25%, and it plans to reduce power usage in data centers by 45% by the end of 2007.

"Our proven DC Power technology has the potential to significantly reduce power consumption and increase server reliability," explained Rackable Systems’ Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Giovanni Coglitore. "DC power gives technology companies like Netfirms the opportunity to actively help our environment by reducing energy usage and decreasing the amount of heat produced in large-scale data centers while maintaining their competitive edge."

"DC power is the most viable method of reducing our environmental footprint. It sees more direct results than purchasing renewable energy credits,” explained Netfirms’ Product Manager, Mr. Jason Matheson.

As part of its “Green Program”, Netfirms has reduced office energy consumption by minimizing decorative lighting and raising the air temperature in their buildings. The company’s corporate office is now a Certified Go Green Building as awarded by the US BOMA Go Green Environmental Certification program.

"Netfirms has always been environmentally responsible by participating in recycling programs and using environmentally sustainable resources and practices in our day to day operations. This new green program simply reinforces our ongoing commitment to the environment," concluded Netfirms’ President, Mr. Thomas Savundra.
