April 7, 2007 – (HOSTSERCH.COM) – Network Solutions has shut down a pedophile website that violated its content standards, it was announced recently. The site, "Seattle-Tacoma-Everett Girl Love", was described as catering to pedophiles while also listing “local family events”. Company spokeswoman, Susan Wade, suggested the action came after Network Solutions received two complaints about the site.
The complaints were made after an article in the The Bellingham Herald newspaper warning parents about the site. Despite Network Solutions’ action, police investigating the site have failed to find illegal content on the site.
Although Network Solutions has shut down the site, there is nothing preventing its owner, Jack McClellan, from setting up the site with another host. According to Mr. McClellan, the site has been shut down twice before. "He could go to another hosting provider and buy a hosting package and put that content back up, unfortunately," Ms. Wade suggested. "He's probably been moving it from provider to provider."
"There's no mechanism in place where you police the content of everything that's going up because hosting providers can sell thousands of sites a day," added Ms. Wade. "We host over 7.4 million domain names, and we sell packages where we host the content of a site, so we have hundreds of thousands of sites that we host. What helps us is when we get third parties or when we get served legal papers that say, 'Hey, take a look at this.'"
