New Microsoft .Net 4.0 Customers Can Now Reap Benefits by Hosting with Newtek Technology Services

April 30, 2010
April 30, 2010 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Newtek Technology Services, the technology division of Newtek Business Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: NEWT), and supporting both the Newtek Web Hosting and CrystalTech brands, today announced the release of several new shared hosting plans offering customers the benefits of Microsoft’s latest version of the .NET Framework, along with the software giant’s latest release of Windows Server 2008 and IIS. In addition, Newtek modified its shared environment to give customers a greater degree of flexibility and more control over their hosting accounts.

Having participated in the initial release of Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7, Newtek has offered customers the new operating system in the dedicated and VPS environments for some time. It was only recently that the technologies made the jump to Newtek’s shared environment.

“We initially concentrated on the virtualization benefits of 2008 for our customers,” said Robert Cichon, President of Newtek Technology Services. “Hyper-V was a huge leap for Microsoft, and it was the perfect entry point for us into virtualization and VPS hosting. However, with .NET 4.0’s release to market along with the R2 release of Sever 2008, we felt the time was right to expand our offering to shared customers.”

Newtek also modified its shared environment to accommodate some of the benefits of moving to these new technologies. For example, all sites on new hosting plans are provisioned in their own application pools, making trust issues with .NET less of a concern for developers. Newtek also modified their account management platform, the WebControlCenter™, so that customers could more easily control their individual application pools. New features include the ability to start and stop an application pool, customers can select which version of the .NET framework they want to use, and also select the bit level for .NET (32-bit or 64-bit). In addition, customers can manage their sites using IIS Manager, Microsoft’s plug-in for the web server platform, which means customers connect directly with IIS to maintain things like default pages, error pages, and much more.

“We definitely went back to our roots a bit with this release,” continued Cichon. “Designers and developers have been our core audience for years. Making these changes to our infrastructure is a way to give back to them. “

It should be noted that, along with .NET 4.0, Newtek’s new hosting plans support the use of other new releases by Microsoft, including Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight 4.
