ORCS Web Prepares for VS2010 Release with Installation of MSDeploy

This tool is specially designed for seamless Web application deployment. While MSDeploy, at its foundation, is a powerful tool for system administrators, it also plays a new role in Web site content deployment for ORCS Web’s customers. Implementing MSDeploy allows developers who utilize ORCS Web’s solutions to prepare for leading-edge deployment options within Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010) prior to its release.
MSDeploy will be a supported option for deploying Web sites with Visual Studio 2010’s one-touch feature. It is extremely fast deploying the Web site because it only copies the differences to the server, saving time and bandwidth. Utilizing VS2010 with MSDeploy eliminates command-line complexity and provides the ability to deploy applications with a single click. MSDeploy with ORCS Web’s administrative settings, developers can start, stop and recycle application pools. Additionally, developers can mark folders as applications when deploying projects, something that is not supported with FTP or xcopy deployments. The tool is available for all shared servers running Internet Information Services 7 (IIS 7) and the ORCS Web team can support it for dedicated customers per their request.
In addition to Visual Studio 2010 as an MSDeploy client, IIS 7 Manager can also be used for deploying content and managing IIS VDirs and applications. Using IIS 7 Manager, ORCS Web’s customers can bundle their site and rapidly deploy the entire site.
