Rackspace Managed Hosting Might Move Headquarters

April 28, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Rackspace Managed Hosting (http://www.rackspace.com) might move headquarters to the Windsor Park Mall, or may move out of San Antonio, MySA.com (http://www.mysanantonio.com) reported this week. According to Rackspace's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lanham Napier, a number of US states are trying to entice the company to move.

"I don't think it's a situation where we want to move the whole company out," MySA.com quoted Mr. Napier as saying. "But for the next 1,000 Rackers, we've got to decide are they going to be in San Antonio or are they going to be somewhere else?" 1,250 of Rackspace’s 1,612 employees are in San Antonio.

Investors, led by the Windcrest Economic Development Corporation who bought Windsor Park Mall in San Antonio, are in the "preliminary stages" of negotiating with a number of companies, including Rackspace, who are potentially interested in purchasing the site. "We're going to be as supportive as we can to redevelop that area," explained San Antonio's Economic Development Director, Mr. Robert Peche, discussing possible tax abatement incentives for Rackspace and other potential purchasers.

Rackspace was established in 1998, founded by three Trinity University students. The company’s annual revenues are now more than $220 million. Discussing a potential move to Windsor Park Mall, Mr. Napier said, "For the next 5,000 Rackers, is San Antonio the best place to do that, or do we need to move to another talent market?"
