Web Hosting Provider Rackspace Launches New UK Data Center

April 24, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting has launched a new data center in the United Kingdom, the company announced yesterday. The data center is located in Slough, England, and will be powered “entirely by renewable energy”.

Rackspace’s new center is intended to “support the company's continued growth in the managed hosting market” and will accommodate in excess of 40,000 servers by early 2008. The building where the new center will be housed is powered by electrify generated from “wood chips and fiber fuel” – both regarded as “renewable biomass energy sources”.

Established in 1998, Rackspace provides managed services to around 10,000 customers through eight data centers. The company’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr. John Engates, was reported as saying that as Rackspace grows, the company intends to utilize as many means possible to “conserve power or utilize renewable energy sources”.
