Renewable Resources Company GE Power & Water Announces Launch of ‘Digital Wind Farm’
In news that might be important to ‘green’ web hosts, renewable resources company GE Power & Water has announced the launch of ‘Digital Wind Farm’. The company, which has headquarters in Schenectady, New York, USA, operates in the energy industry offering its customers “power generation, energy delivery and water process” solutions. Digital Wind Farm is an energy ecosystem that helps the wind industry by uniting turbines and digital infrastructure.

Termed the ‘Industrial Internet’, Digital Wind Farm helps integrate renewable power to existing power grids. It uses “interconnected digital technology” to increase a wind farm’s energy production “by up to 20%” and its value to the wind industry might ultimately exceed $50 billion.

Features of the Digital Wind Farm include analytics that establish whether turbines are “customized for peak efficiency”. Sensors are embedded in turbines to collect data, which is analyzed by GE’s Predix software. Using the data, the system becomes ‘predictive’ and is able to maintain optimal wind farm performance.

“Every business—including our own at GE—and every industry is being transformed by smarter digital technologies, and the greatest opportunity lies in energy,” explained GE Power & Water’s CEO and president, Steve Bolze. “The question is not whether to start down this path … it’s about knowing how to get the most out of your digital transformation. That’s what will separate industry leaders from those left behind.”
