December 20, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – A second auction of domain names bearing the .ME extension has been announced, it was reported recently. Five “.ME” domains - Contact.ME, Read.ME, Feed.ME, Alert.ME, and Save.ME - will be made available through live auction at the DOMAINfest Global ‘09 event to be held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California, USA on January 27-30, 2009. Bidding will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (4:30-8:00p.m. Eastern Standard Time).
The auction will be managed by Moniker (http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/index.html), the organization managed the .ME auction in September 2008 where 11 ME domains names were sold for $218,000, with “Date.ME” raising $70,000.
“After our initial experience, we are anticipating a significant amount of interest in this list of dot-ME names as well,” explained registry Executive Director Predrag Lesic. “We are thrilled with the buzz dot-ME is generating amongst bidders at auction.”
A number of bidding options exist for the January 2009 auction. These include “On-site Live Bidder”, where those interested in making a purchase attend in person and bid using a paddle; “Bid Online” for those who cannot bid in person through the SnapNames Live auction bidding platform. “Telephone” bidding via a proxy bidder in the auction room is also an option, and as is an “Absentee Bid” where the auctioneer bids on behalf of people interested in particular items, but does not exceed the maximum bid quoted.
.ME is the top level domain for Montenegro. The .ME Registry was chosen by the government of Montenegro to operate the name extension. Companies selling .ME domain names include GoDaddy.com and Afilias Limited.
