Sedo and dotHIV Patner for .HIV Top-level Domain Support
Domain name marketplace and monetization provider Sedo has partnered with dotHIV, the nonprofit registry behind the upcoming .hiv generic top-level domain (or gTLD). The partnership will be formalized on December 1, 2012 – World AIDS Day – and the initiative aims to establish .hiv as the “red ribbon of the digital age”.

Berlin-based dotHIV is managing the introduction of the .hiv extension, which is planned late 2013. In excess of 70% of revenue generated by the registry will be channeled to AIDS/HIV charities. Ultimately, dotHIV will channel 80% of its revenue to charity while the remaining 20% will be used to meet its operational costs and help raise AIDS/HIV awareness through digital channels.

Sedo will support dotHIV with their efforts by providing a range of services at reduced cost. These services include appraising and auctioning premium .hiv domain names and supporting preregistrations for businesses and individuals wanting to reserve domain names in advance of the official launch. Sedo will also ensure that key .hiv domain names are utilized appropriately.

“By announcing this partnership on the occasion of World AIDS Day, we hope to raise awareness of our social cause on a global basis,” explained CEO and co-founder of dotHIV, Carolin Silbernagl. “Since forming dotHIV two years ago we’ve been working constantly to attract the right partners, and with Sedo’s full-service domain marketplace now on board, it’s a real step in the right direction. Sedo’s expertise and international network bring us closer to establishing .hiv domains as the red ribbon of the digital age.”
