Telecommunications and Internet Services Provider Level 3 Acquires DDoS Mitigation Services Provider Black Lotus
Telecommunications and internet services provider Level 3 has acquired DDoS mitigation services provider Black Lotus. The company, which has headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, USA, offers a range of services which include Internet, mobile telephony, and content delivery services. A Fortune 500 company, Level 3 is one of the largest providers of fiber optic Internet access in the United States. It manages a Tier 1 network and caters to Internet carriers across the globe. Level 3’s purchase of Black Lotus will extend the range of security products it can offer customers. The deal took place July 1, 2015 but financial aspects were not released.

Black Lotus, which was established in 1999, offers a range of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) options through its headquarters in San Francisco, California, USA and its facilities in Los Angeles, California and Ashburn, Virginia, USA, and those in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Level 3's purchase of the company underscores its commitment to security. It adds various layers of security to Level 3’s offerings, including additional “scrubbing centers”, detection and mitigation scrubbing, and “network routing, rate limiting and IP filtering abilities”.
