Telecom Company has a Hold on Bandwidth and Pricing

Share
January 19, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Telkom, Africa's leading integrated communication company, has such a hold on bandwidth and pricing that it is suffocating South Africa’s web hosting industry, suggests global web hosting entrepreneur Mr. Wam van Strij de Regt.

“Prices are being kept artificially high and do not compete with international standards,” explained Mr. van Strij de Regt. “Web hosting companies are not offered special rates by the bandwidth supplier, which keeps most web content overseas. This is damaging the SA web hosting industry.”

According to technology news site ITWeb, Mr. van Strij de Regt suggested lower prices for local hosting companies would allow local producers and developers to start offering full services locally and would be a precursor to a boom in the South African hosting market.
