The Alternative Board (TAB) Survey Suggests Small Businesses Move to the Cloud for Increased Functionality and Improved Security
A survey from research company The Alternative Board (TAB) has suggested that small businesses are motivated to move to the cloud for increased functionality and improved security. The company, which has headquarters in Westminster, Colorado, USA, offers a range of services including business coaching sessions, business resources, white papers, surveys and strategic business tools. Its survey considered responses from 300 small businesses that had moved to cloud-based solutions.

Cloud solutions include Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive and Dropbox. The survey suggests that business owners feel the cloud enables their businesses to become more mobile and allows staff to access data more easily. 87% of those surveyed had switched to a cloud-based solution in the last five years. 43% suggested improved functionality drove their move to the cloud, while 38% suggested enhanced security was their driver. Only 10% suggested cost was a motivating factor, while only 9% gave privacy as their chief reason for cloud migration.

“Small business owners are less concerned with data breaches that might set them back than streamlined systems that can move them forward,” explained TAB’s Vice President David Scarola in a press release. “This is a valid concern, considering business owners ranked poor employee training, poor transition/integration, and poor technical support above security as top challenges they faced when upgrading to cloud services.”
