Domain and Web Hosting Provider GoDaddy.com Makes OpenSSH Project Donation

April 20, 2006 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Domain and web hosting provider GoDaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com) has made a donation of $10,000 to the OpenSSH (Secure Shell) project – an Open Source project that provides free secure server tools to the Internet community.

OpenSSH is a Unix / Linux technology used to manage servers, log into computers over a network, execute commands on a remote machine, and move files from one machine to another. The system encrypts connections to protect host machines and connections.

As with other Open Source initiatives OpenBSD – the body developing OpenSSH – relies on the contributions of suitably qualified volunteers and donations which help the project acquire test hardware, maintain equipment and organize conferences for volunteers.

"OpenSSH and the work of the OpenBSD project volunteers are integral to online security. Go Daddy is pleased to be able to help them continue their great contributions to the Internet community," said GoDaddy.com’s Founder and CEO Bob Parsons. "At Go Daddy, we use OpenSSH extensively to manage our large and rapidly expanding technical infrastructure. Our engineering staff relies on it on a constant basis. Go Daddy is very grateful and we want to show our appreciation to this extremely vital organization."

"We are very thankful Go Daddy has the vision to financially support the mission of OpenSSH," suggested Theo de Raadt, leader of the OpenBSD and OpenSSH projects. "This will allow us to keep improving the quality and security of the product which system administrators around the world rely on to do their jobs."
