Web Host The Planet Adds New Advanced Dedicated Backup Server
March 19, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web host The Planet (http://www.theplanet.com/) has added a new advanced Dedicated Backup Server to its suite of offerings, it was announced yesterday. According to the company, the new server will be the largest and most powerful in its fleet. The Planet offering is available at a promotional price for a limited period.
The server offers 6TB of capacity in an enterprise-ready RAID5 configuration. It is equipped with R1Softs Continuous Data Protection CDPServer software which allows users to recover servers to their original known state through ongoing data snapshot backups. When necessary, it also allows users to roll-back to the last update, therefore minimizing loss.
Data loss is no laughing matter, as far too many companies have learned, said Urvish Vashi, The Planets Director of Product Management. Surveys have found that only 20% of businesses are adequately covered on backup. With content-rich sites and mission-critical environments, that represents a significant business risk. The best recommendation we can make to protect customers is to be certain theyre covered on backup.
The Planets Dedicated Backup Server utilizes the Dell 2900 monster server and is available with both Linux and Windows operating systems. Equipped with 8 1TB SATA drives in a RAID5 configuration, the server provides 8GB of RAM and 2-250GB system drives, with up to 8TB of free bandwidth is available. The new server is available through the companys six data centers.
The Planet hosts more than 22,000 small- and medium-size businesses and 6.7 million websites worldwide. It new server offering is available at a promotional price until March 31, 2008 or while supplies last.
