Web Host The Planet Opens Dallas Data Center Expansion
November 25, 2008 (HOSTSEARCH.COM) Web host The Planet has opened its Dallas D6 data center expansion, it was announced recently. The opening of the expansion adds 12,000 square feet to the companys data center footprint, which is now 167,000 square feet. D6 will accommodate up to 10,000 servers housed in an energy-efficient design.
We continue to experience solid customer demand, so this new space enables us to accommodate our growth, Jeff Owenberg, The Planets Vice President of Facilities. Additionally, operating our data centers at peak performance is important to both our company and our customers, especially as we prepare for our future.
D6s design separates hold and cold air giving the data center a coefficient of efficiency of approximately 1.5, which is below the 1.6 ideal ranking recognized by EPA and Uptime Institute. The new data center floor also extends the plenums of the computer-room air conditioning (CRAC) units through the ceiling, using that space as a return air path.
The Planet is a provider of on demand IT infrastructure solutions and hosts more than 25,000 small- and medium-size businesses and 13.3 million websites worldwide. The companys Planet Alpha division provides self-managed dedicated servers while Planet Northstar offers managed hosting. The company operates six data centers, with four in Dallas and two in Houston, USA.
