Tier1 Report Looks at Mass-Market Web Hosting Sector

March 2, 2007
March 2, 2007 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Tier1 (http://www.tier1research.com) has released a report that looks at web hosting and provides a quarterly update on issues that are impacting the market and possible future market trends. The report suggests the mass-market hosting sector (shared and dedicated) is changing as “institutional money” enters the market and “competition stiffens”.

Set against a backdrop of greater broadband adoption and “multiple web presence possibilities” for consumers and businesses, consolidation of the web hosting sector is creating “new leaders that are reinvigorating the sector's identity”, the report suggests.

"Hosting at the mass-market level continues to experience commoditization pressure as it increasingly becomes a common denominator across a widening scope of technology service providers," explained T1R’s Senior Analyst and one of the report’s author’s, Mr. Philbert Shih. "We believe that noteworthy changes in market share along with the trends that developed around the 4Q06 period are telling for possible future directions of this marketplace."

Based in Minneapolis, USA, Tier1 Research (T1R) is an “independent research firm that analyzes the financial and industry implications of developments affecting public and private companies within the IT, communications and Internet sectors.” Its 36-page report, "A 4Q06 Review of the Mass-Market Hosting Sector: Change Continues to Sweep the Sector, but Opportunities Remain", considers companies in the North American and European web hosting markets.
