February 23, 2008
February 23, 2008 – (HOSTSEARCH.COM) – Tucows Inc. (http://www.tucows.com) has announced a “Personal Names Service”, it was reported recently. The company, a provider of Internet services to web hosting companies and ISPs, will enable its resellers to sell email addresses based on its portfolio of surname domain names. According to the company, the portfolio consists of over 39,000 domains, and includes a domain for the top 100 surnames in the Unite States, according to census data provided in the year 2000. This will cover “two-thirds of North Americans”.

A Personal Names Service account offers an email such as amy@smith.net and includes two gigabytes of standard storage and POP, IMAP, mobile and webmail access.

"The launch of the Personal Names Service marks the complete integration of the surname assets we acquired with NetIdentity into our wholesale channel," explained Tucows’ President and CEO, Elliot Noss. "The combination of surnames and our extensive service provider network has incredible potential to be a catalyst for change in how people use domain names and email."

"Our experience is that when people look to identify themselves online they are naturally drawn towards something that matches their own name," added Tucows’ Product Manager, Domains, Adam Eisner. "Our new Personal Names Service presents an exciting opportunity for service providers to offer exactly that. We believe this will be attractive to individuals as well as professionals looking to establish their personal brand for their business."

Tucows has a network of over 9,000 service providers and provides millions of email boxes and manages over eight million domains. The company is ICANN accredited.
