UK’s MoD Extends Contract with Managed Cloud Company Rackspace
The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has extended its contract with managed cloud company Rackspace. Established in 1998, Rackspace has global headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, United States, and UK headquarters in Hayes, Middlesex. The company offers services that enable its customers to transition to the cloud without managing the entirety of the process themselves. These services enable its customers to leverage the solutions of its many partners, which include Alibaba, AWS, Google, Microsoft, OpenStack, Oracle, SAP and VMware. The MoD extension is reportedly bringing the company income of around £4 million ($5.25 million).

The UK’s MoD, which has headquarters in Whitehall, London, oversees all aspects of the country’s armed forces. In 2009 Rackspace beat 18 other companies to receive what was initially a three-year contract to provide the MoD with a ‘server farm’. Rackspace provided a fully managed virtualized solution for the Joint Server Farm (JSF), which hosts MoD, Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force websites. The contract has been extended several times, but the latest extension was awarded June 26, 2018 and runs from July 1, 2018 until next year.
