UK Small Businesses Suggest Social Media Marketing is 'a Waste of Time'
A report in the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph suggests small businesses in the United Kingdom have suggested that, as far as marketing is concerned, social media marketing is 'a waste of time', with many suggesting their social media strategy might not have any impact on their bottom lines. While small business owners spend around 6-10 hours a week engaged in social media marketing, some suggest that this effort does not lead to additional business.

These views, given by UK entrepreneurs, were revealed in a survey of 1,000 small business owners and executives. The survey was commissioned by Deal With The Media, a British consulting company that specializes in enabling customers to leverage free advertising through media publicity. The survey revealed that around 66% of those questioned believed social media strategy had little genuine impact on revenue or brand recognition. Some companies suggested that multiple years of posting on Facebook had resulted in very little new business.

Research by another British company, Social Media Examiner, suggests that 96% of small businesses in the UK use social media for marketing. Facebook leads the social media outlets, with Twitter in second place, followed by LinkedIn and Google+.
